surrounding myself with trees

sketchbook: view of trees at planting fields, bvw 9/20/08

Trees are awe inspiring  lately! There is  an arboretum nearby and so I am lucky to have unfettered access to it.

Below is larger drawing!  I was looking for relationships between trees and their shadows! As I draw them I take notice!  I pay close attention to  the the wide range of barks and leaves;  the way trees are always reaching out; how rooted and dependent they are to the soil. They provide shade, protection, cleanse the air by using and storing carbon.  Kind of makes you want to keep them around. doesn’t it?

These are so beautiful – right up there with one of my favorite VanGoghs of olive trees. My family calls me a tree-hugger and well, yes Im in love! Nicely done.

I’m all for keeping the trees around…….these drawings are so beautiful, Beth. I’ve always loved trees – especially the old ones – so full of wisdom and you’ve captured them so well here.

Love, Trisha

Laura sent me to your blog/website—lovely work, well spoken thoughts. I get waylaid by trees, their trunks & branching parts & paint them often. I know the arboretum at Planting Fields well, spent many hours drawing there when my kids were at CSH Lab summer camps.
Keep painting! Your oils show the influence of your watercolor work, lovely fluid layers.
